The Morro do Pai Inácio, as well as being one to the most visited attractions in the Chapada Diamantina, is also associated with some of the region’s oldest legends and mysteries. The old legend says that it’s name originated from the story of a slave who had a romantic affair with the daughter of a rich farmer, who then found herself pregnant. The slave, who was worried about the intolerance which prevailed in this period, escaped to the mountain and jumped from high up with an open umbrella. The legend says that he escaped and was never seen again.
