To get to the wonderful Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina with it’s trails, hills, mountains, waterfalls, and all of it’s main towns and villages, there are two options from Salvador, the capital of Bahia: car or plane. Lençóis, located about 400km from Salvador, is the most popular way in to the Chapada da Diamantina. If you decide to travel from Salvador to Lençóis by car, the trip takes about four to five hours. If you however decide to make the trip by plane from Salvador to the “Chapada’s capital”, Lençóis, the trip is just 1hour. If you like to travel by car and enjoy the scenery, access to the Chapada da Diamantina is via the roads BR-116, which runs from the north to the south of Bahia and BR-242, which links tast to the west of the state. From Salvador you can get to the Chapada Diamantina via BR-324 to Feira de Santana and BR-116 until you get to the junction with BR-242. Follow BR-242 until you get to Lençóis.
By Plane – Flights suspended indefinitely
To get to the Chapada Diamantina by plane, there are three regular flights per week to the city of Lençóis: on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The flight from Salvador to Lençóis lasts around 1hour and the airport in Lençóis (Aeroporto Coronel Horácio de Matos) is in the Coronel Otaviano Alves district (BR-242) located 20km from Lençóis. To get from the airport to the centre of Lençóis, you can call the Transfer Receptivo Privativo, which can be waiting for you on your arrival at the airport.
