Cachoeira do Sossego

One of the Chapada Diamantina’s most delightful of waterfalls, the Cachoeira do Sossego is reached by a trail which is considered to be one of the most difficult for those who aren’t used to steep hikes.The hike to the Cachoeira do Sossego in the Chapada Diamantina starts off in Lençóis and is a hike of 8 km in total. The route takes you along a beautiful 6 km trail and then continues for another 2 km along the river bed of the Rio Ribeirão. The total time for the hike is about 3 hours and it is recommended that you go with a recognised Chapada Diamantina guide as the trail has a lot of stones and road forks, especially at the beginning.
The Cachoeira do Sossego is hidden amongst a valley of canyons, but all of the energy that you have spent getting there is well worth it when you see the enormous water free fall of about 15m in height. The route to the Cachoeira do Sossego in the Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina takes tourists across numerous rocks, pools and between rock clusters. Between huge cliffs and luscious vegetation, is the Cachoeira da Fumaça, with it’s ice cold and crystal clear waters. A swim in the waters of the Cachoeira do Sossego is not only stimulating it’s an absolute must.
